Most dental insurance plans renew on a yearly basis. So, if you are in need of any type of dental work, whether it's cosmetic or restorative, it's best to take advantage of the last month of the year and use the benefits you gained by paying your deductibles. Dental work can get very expensive and if you don't use these benefits, you may lose them.
Let’s see how the dental insurance system works and why it’s good to make a dentist’s appointment by the end of the year.
Every 1st of January, your benefits reset, which means that everything you accumulated and paid for this year can only be used for insurance coverage by the end of this year.
Even for patients who don’t have any dental emergencies or problems that need reconstructive dentistry, insurance can still be used to cover preventive treatments and even cosmetic dental procedures. You can go to the dentist simply for a regular check-up or a deep clean, and take advantage of benefits up to $1,000 per person, yearly.
So, while you still have time, check with your insurer how much is left of your yearly maximum and what dental treatments are included in your insurance policy. Once you have this information, schedule a dental appointment right away and make the best out of your investment. Preventing and treating right away are the best long-term plans in dentistry, and you can save a lot of money by intervening early on.
When it comes to dental treatments, it’s best to do everything sooner rather than later, as many conditions worsen over time and become more difficult, or even impossible to treat. Even if dental offices might get a bit busier at the end of the year (precisely because other patients too are taking advantage of the benefits), it’s the best time to get your treatments, as prices often go up at the beginning of the next year.
So, instead of waiting for a dental issue to get worse and be more expensive to treat next year, it’s best to start a treatment plan by the 31st of December and use your benefits. Waiting out for an abscess may lead to serious infections and even tooth loss, so call a dentist if you have any discomfort or signs of a dental issue.
If you haven’t used all your dental benefits for this year, schedule an appointment at Washington Metro Dental and get a routine check-up, a dental treatment, or a simple deep clean. Our dentists will explain everything thoroughly, and suggest the best treatment plans for your particular case.
